Why JoVE?

JoVE stands for Journal of Visualized Experiments and what we did is create a new online publication that addresses a very painful point in life science research: reproducibility of experiments. In biology, as my business partner Moshe Pritsker explained to me, small details can affect the outcome of the experiment and written protocols, which have been the standard, more often than not, do not supply the clarity necessary for immediate successful execution. Consequently, our publication allows demonstration of techniques to reduce the amount of effort and time necessary to reproduce an experiment.
Our ultimate goal, however, goes beyond simply helping scientists. We see this as an opportunity to accelerate research, shorten the time that it takes for a drug to go from the research bench to patient bed-side, and otherwise increase our collective quality of life through empowering both academia and industry.
This also fits extremely well with my interests and capabilities. I am using the SiMX platform to develop and maintain the site, which gives us significant advantages in the complexity that we should be able to attain without significant expenditure of time and effort. If you have ideas or are interested in being involved, I would love to hear from you. Please contact me at nikitab@jove.com.
